New Author Blog Post

On Titling; or, why can't I name things, whyyyyyy?

Anyone who’s really stopped to take note of the names of my stories has probably noticed that coming up with titles is not my forte. I’ve heard authors say that the title comes first and the story flows from it. I’ve heard authors say that the initial idea and the title go hand in hand, inextricably entwined.

This is just not the case for me. I write my story, and then I polish it up, and then I get ready to submit it to my publisher, and then I realized, “Oh no, I still need a title.” And then I stare at the story for awhile. Cock my head this way and that way, hoping something will materialize out of the blue.

Blog Tour Catch Up

Imaginary is now available in the Less Than Three book market!

If you'd like to know a little more about the book before (potentially) purchasing it, check on the first two stops of my blog tour:

Horror Tropes, Imaginary Friends, and the inspiration for Imaginary at The Armchair Reader:

As ‘begin at the beginning’ always seems like sound advice, I thought I’d take the opportunity today to talk about the inspiration behind Imaginary and the unique relationship between Aaron and James. Imaginary is largely a story about children and growing up, which makes my inspiration for the tale all the more ironic. I decided to write Imaginary after spending some time thinking about horror movie tropes...

My Writing Process and Character Development at It's Raining Men:

I conceive of my characters relatively quickly. I knew from the first moment I considered writing about an imaginary friend that James would be quiet and sensitive and bookish – he’d have to be, to fill so many lonely hours...

And tomorrow stop by Pants Off Review to hear me talk about "magical realism" as a genre.

Imaginary Giveaway!

Hello and welcome to my giveaway to celebrate the release of Imaginary!

Aaron is a lonely, unloved boy when he first meets James. Their friendship seems like a dream come true—or perhaps just a dream, because no one else can see or hear James. Aaron stubbornly clings to his new friend, however, even when the friendship makes him an object of scorn and ridicule. No matter the years that pass, or the challenges they face, Aaron refuses to give up on his best friend—but life might just find a way to take James from him anyway.

Imaginary is available for preorder at Less Than Three Press until its release on May 8th.

And Now, A Giveaway!

I am offering two free copies of Imaginary. Two winners will be chosen at random from the comments on this entry. This is the e-book version, and I will send a copy in your preferred format; epub, HTML, mobi, PDF.

I'm also going to be doing a blog tour to promote the release starting on May 6th, complete with a giveaway contest. The first entry will be at The Armchair Reader.

I think this is the piece of writing I'm most proud of, so it would be great if some of you wanted to check it out!
